MCR Pathways is a Scottish charity. Our vision is that every care-experienced and disadvantaged young person in Scotland gets the same education outcomes, career opportunities and life chances as every other young person.
Our school-based Mentoring and Talent Taster programme supports disadvantaged and care-experienced young people. We help them to find, grow and use their inspiring talents and then progress onto positive destinations.
Volunteer mentors spend one hour a week listening to and encouraging their young person. The only qualification you need to be a mentor is the desire to help and be there. Our mentors help the young person they are matched with, to realise their full potential and be empowered with the confidence and belief to make it happen.
National 60%
MCR Pathways 86%
MCR mentoring transforms lives. In our most recent Impact Report, 86% of mentored leavers progressed to positive destinations (full-time employment, further education, or higher education) vs. 51% of care-experienced non-mentored leavers.
There’s amazing potential in our most disadvantaged young people, potential that’s often buried because of difficult life experiences. Mentors bridge talent with opportunity. By spending just one hour a week listening and being there for your young person you will empower them to unlock their potential.
Having a mentor made me feel that the was somebody there who cared. Somebody there who wanted to talk about my troubles and feel like I would be listened to.
We could relate in a way. We didn’t have the exact same personal experience but it was similar, like a lot similar. I’m not a person to speak about my past to a lot of people who I don't know, but I felt comfortable talking about it with someone who kind of shared the same experience.
You can’t underestimate just how important it is for young people to have someone there for them, someone they can depend on, who listens. It’s an hour of your time, it will be the best hour of your week!
Talent Tasters are a chance for young people to try out a job, college, or university in engaging, bite-sized opportunities. Short, hands-on and inspiring, Talent Tasters help unlock young people’s aspirations.
Our committed partners help us deliver our programme and reach more young people. Our partners include organisations of all sizes, from local businesses to national corporations to Local Authorities.
There are many ways to get involved at MCR Pathways. We are delighted to have volunteers supporting almost every department in our team. Contact us if you’d like to get involved!
